It is a way of accessing information over the medium of the internet. WWW A technical definition of the World Wide Web is: all the resources and users on the internet that are using the Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP).   Ss1 TOPIC:   COMMUNICATION SYSTEM III Introduction Various computer network configurations are possible depending on the needs of an organization. Local area networks (LAN) joins computers at a particular site, such as an office building or an academic campus. Metropolitan area networks (MAN) cover a limited densely populated area. Wide area networks (WAN) connects widely distributed data centers frequently run by different organizations. GSM: Global System for Mobile communications is a digital cellular phone technology which started in Europe and migrated to other continents. The SIM card GSM phones use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) smart card that contains user information.   PAN: this is a computer network organized around an individual person. Personal area networks typically involve a mobile computer. A cell phone or a handheld computing device such as a PDA. Personal networks generally cover a range of less than 10meters (about 30 feet). PAN can be...

Jss3 TOPIC:   INFORMATION STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL II Introduction File organization could be defined as the method in which data or record is held on a file with the view of how they are accessed and retrieved. Types of file organization methods 1.      Serial 2.      Sequential 3.      Index 4.      Direct access Serial method: serial file organization can also be called unordered file organization. A file is said to have and unordered organization if the records held or stored in any particular order or sequence on the file. Records are stored as they arrive on first come first serve principle. Sequential method: this involves arranging of records in a particular sequence according to their field e.g. in alphabetical or numerical order. For example, student’s registration is done in this manner and the intake of new students might mean the whole file would be written all over...

Ss2 TOPIC:   HANDLING COMPUTER FILES II Introduction This is the concept that a file is always vulnerable and is prone to be lost or missing in the computer. File security is a feature of your file system which controls user access and places limitation to what users can do to various files on your computer. Effect of file security 1.      Loss of data: computer users and experts often experience data loss when files are destroyed and sometimes there is no hope of recovery and this is as a result of files being tempered with on the computer or through virus invasion or sudden crash of the operating system. 2.      Overwriting: this is a process of writing a binary set of data on a memory data that has been overwritten. This is generally considered to be unrecoverable. 3.      Dis-orientation of the file system: as a result of someone tempering with the computer system, there may be displacement of fi...

Jss3 TOPIC:   INFORMATION STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL Introduction   Storage is one of the greatest attributes of the computer system. Storage is needed in all the stages, be it input, processing or output. For the computer to perform computation, the instructions needed to carry out this task are stored somewhere it would be fetched from. Information storage It involves the process of keeping data and information in a storage device for future use, for documentation purpose, for reference purpose for re-usability or for transfer purpose. Types of Data File Basically, files can be divided into three, based on the type of data that they store. They include: 1.      Data files 2.      Application file 3.      System file   Data File: these are files that are generated when an application is used. For example, the document file generated from using Microsoft word, excel, chat history on F...
