TOPIC: COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
II
Introduction
Major advances in the field of broadcasting, communication and
information technology (IT) during the last decade has had a great impact on
the information and broadcasting sector.
Types of ICT
The following are the types of ICT
1. Broadcasting
2. Telecommunication
3. Information
system
4. Satellite
communication
Broadcasting: it is the
distribution of radio and video content to a dispersed audience via any audio
or visual mass communication medium, but usually one using electromagnetic
radiation radio waves. It is a method of transmitting signals such as radio or
television programs to relatively large group of recipients.
Telecommunication: is the assisted
transmission of signals over a distance for the purpose of communication. In
earlier times, this might have involved the use of smoke signals, drums, flags
or heliographs. A telecommunication system consists of three basic elements: a
transmitter, a transmission medium and a receiver that receives the signal and
convert it back to usable information.
Data networks: data network is an
electronic communications process that allows for the orderly transmission and
reception of data, such as letters, spreadsheets and other types of documents.
What sets this type of network apart from other forms of communication such as
an audio network, is that it is configured to transmit data only.
Information system: information system
is a combination of people, hardware, software communication devices, network
and data resources that process data and information for specific purpose.
Information system can be divided into four (4) major categories which are:
1. Transaction
Processing System (TPS)
2. Management
Information System (MIS)
3. Decision Support
System (DSS)
4. Executive
Support System (ESS)
Satellite communications: satellite is a solid
object that revolves around some heavenly body due to the effect of gravitational
forces which are mutual in nature. In satellite communication, a signal
transferring between sender and receiver is done with the help of a satellite.
Two satellite which are commonly used in satellite communication are: Active
and Passive satellites. Active
satellites basically amplify the coming microwave signals, while the passive
satellites are plastic balloons having metals coated over them.
