SSS ONE WEEK NINE LESSON NOTE(ICT_223)
SS 1
TOPIC: APPLICATION OF ICT II
Introduction
The main
function of any telecommunication network is to provide efficient transmission
of information from point of origin to a point of termination.
Telecommunication Network
A telecommunication
network is a collection of nodes and links that is capable of carrying audio,
visual and data communications. It is a combination of nodes and links which
are arranged in such a way that the message may pass from one part of the
network to the other by travelling over variable nodes.
Smart messaging
Smart
messaging was developed by Nokia and found only on Nokia phones. It allows
people to do simple picture messaging with low cost, quick message transmission
and high simplicity of regular text messages.
1. SMS (short messaging service): is the most common type of text message
and it is supported by a large number of mobile phones. It allows a maximum of
160 characters per message.
2. EMS (Extended Message Service): Allows for pictures, animations,
ringtones and other non-text content similar to smart messaging but EMS adds
the ability to format text messaging including font size.
3. MMS (Multimedia
Messaging Service): includes the ability to create message with text, picture,
music and other context.
ICT Based Gadgets
1. Mobiles phone: an electric telecommunication device often referred to as
a cellular phone or cellphone, connect to a wireless communications network
through radio wave or satellite transmissions.
2. Fax machine (Short for Facsimile and sometimes called tele-copying) is
the telephone transmission of scanned-in, printed material (text or images). It
works by scanning documents, scanning documents, sending the data through
land-line and then printing out the copies out at another fax location.
3. ATM (Automated Teller Machines): this is a computerized machine that
permits banks customers to gain access to their accounts with a magnetically
encoded plastic card and code number.
4. Dispensing machine: is a machine that dispenses items such as snacks,
beverages, lottery tickets etc. to customers automatically after the customer
inserts currency credit/debit card into the machine.
5. POS (Point of Sale): is used to conduct retail transactions.
Radio set: radio is the wireless transmission of signals through free space by electromagnetic radiation of a frequency below that of visible light which ranges from about 30 Khz to 300 Ghz
7. Television set: is a widely used telecommunications system for
broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance.
