JSS3 FIRST TERM 2023 WEEK SIX LESSON NOTE

Jss 3

TOPIC: Worksheet II

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, you should be able to

1.     List some keyboard shortcut keys.

2.     Define formula and list parts of a formula

    3.     Define cell referencing and list types of referencing.

Keyboard shortcuts

It is always better to know some basic keyboard shortcut command keys. Some of these shortcuts are:

CTRL + O = open a file              CTRL + X = cut                      CTRL + B = bold

CTRL + N = new file                  CTRL + C = copy                  CTRL + I = italics

F12 = save as                               CTRL + V = paste                 CTRL + U = underline

CTRL + S = save                         CTRL + Z = undo                  CTRL + 5 = strikethrough

CTRL + P = print                         CTRL + Y = redo                   F7 = spelling

CTRL + F = find                        CTRL + H = replace             ALT + =      apply Auto sum

FORMULA

A formula are equations that perform calculations on values in your worksheet. A formula always starts with an equal (=) sign. It specifies what operations are to be performed on the values of the cells it relates to. It usually contains arithmetic values, expressions, cell addresses or ranges.

 Parts of Formula

Constant: they are fixed values that remain the same or that do not change during the program execution. For example: A1*100, A1+ “ADE”. 100 and “ADE” are numeric and alphanumeric constant respectively.

Operators: operators are symbols or special character that are used to indicate or specify the type of calculation that a formula would perform. Some of the functions used in excel are, plus (+) for addition, minus (-) for subtraction, asterisk (*) for multiplication and so on.

CELL REFERENCING

A cell reference refers to a cell or range of cells on a worksheet that can be used in a formula so that MS Excel can find the values or data that you want that formula to calculate.

Types of Cell referencing

Relative reference

Absolute reference

Mixed reference
