Introduction
The invention of the computer, its introduction to communication world and the business environment has done more good than harm. Information is the key factor towards building a strong communication technology base.
Information Transmission
Information transmission can be defined as the means by which data or information is disseminated from its source to its destination. It is the process whereby information is transferred from one person to another or from one place to another.
Methods of Transmission Information
There are two methods of transmitting information, they are:
1. Ancient method
2. Modern method
Ancient method
These are methods used to disseminate information before the invention of technology. These methods were slow, stressful, time wasting, energy consuming and less effective. Examples of ancient methods of transmitting information are:
Face to face (oral), beating drums, fire lighting, town crier, whistling, drawing diagram, making representation.
Modern methods
After the introduction of technology, lots of things changed. As a matter of fat, the sudden increase in the growth rate all over the world, left no other choice than building a faster, better and a more effective method of transmitting information. Modern method of information transmitting information are: writings, prints, telephone, telex, radio, fax, television, satellite, GSM and internet.
Classification of Means of Transmitting Information
The means of transmitting information could be categorized into two:
1. Electronic
2. Non-electronic
Electronic
This involves the use of devices that have transistor chip which control and changes as electric current passes through them. Examples of gadgets used in electronic information transmission includes telephone, radio, fax, satellite, mobile phone, internet etc.
Non-electronic
These methods are referred to as manual because they do not involve the use of electricity. Examples include writing of letters, prints, like newspaper, magazine, journals etc.
