Introduction

It is easier to work on data when they are in tabular form. It makes the easy to understand, locate (retrieved) and updated. Before now, many accounting work were done on the paper, drawing different lines to represent rows and column to from tables.

What Is Spreadsheet Application Package?

Spreadsheet application packages are computer application packages that can be used to perform manipulation and keep track of data. They also help to perform series of analysis on data, managing numbers, carry out simple calculations, organize data and present data in form of graph, tables and chart.

A spreadsheet is also a computer application program that simulates a physical spreadsheet by capturing, displaying and manipulating data arranged in tabular from. As a matter of fact, most organizations prepare their reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually etc.  using spreadsheet package.

Uses of Spreadsheet Packages

a)     It can be used to analyze, manage and organize data.

b)     Reports can be made more visual by using charts and graphs.

c)     It is used to create formula that helps data to be calculated automatically.

d)     It is used to prepare budgets

e)     It is used to manage personal earnings and expenditure.

Spreadsheet Features and Terminologies

Row: this is the horizontal line in a worksheet. Rows are labeled 1,2,3. Rows are arranged from left to right.

Column: this is the vertical line in a worksheet. Columns are labelled A, B, C.

Cell:  a cell is a combination of row and column. A cell is any rectangular shape within a worksheet. Each cell on the spreadsheet has cell address that is the column letter and the row number.

Worksheet: a page in an excel workbook is referred to as worksheet. There are three worksheets in a work page.

Workbook: this is a spreadsheet document that contains more than one worksheet. By default, there are three standard worksheets in a workbook, except more created by the user if required or needed.

User programs effectively use file operations through appropriate programming language syntax.
