Ss2 TOPIC: DATABASE II Introduction In this lesson we shall take a look at Advantages, disadvantages and Terminologies of Database Management Systems. Advantages of DBMS a)      Improved availability: one of the principle advantages of a DBMS is that the same information can be made available to different users. b)      Minimized redundancy: the data in DBMS is more concise because as a general rule, the information in it appears just once. This reduces data redundancy, or in other words the need to repeat data over and over again. c)      Accuracy: Accurate, consistent, and up-to-date data is a sign of data integrity. DBMS foster data integrity because updates and changes to the data only have to be made in one place. d)      Program and file consistency: using a DBMS, file formats and system programs are standardized. This makes data files easier to maintain because the same rules and guidelines...

SS 1 WEEK THREE FIRST TERM 2023 LESSON NOTE

Ss1 TOPIC: COMPUTER EVOLUTION II OBJECTIVE At the end of this topic you should be able to: 1. Write the features and components of pascals mechanical calculator, Gottfried Wilhelm  Leibnitz, Jacquard’s loom, analytical engine   Introduction A further look into the invention of the Pre-computing age to the 19 th century. The following are other inventions:   PASCAL’S MECHANICAL CALCULATOR The son of a tax commissioner, Blaise Pascal at the age of 18 years, invented a numerical wheel calculator to help his father with his duties. The large computation done by Blaise while helping his father in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing lead to the innovation of his calculator. This machine used wheels with pins placed around its perimeter, in such a way that each wheel affected the rotation of the wheel immediately next to it on the left.   GOTTFRIED WHILHEM VON LIEBNITZ A German mathematician and philosopher, Gottfried Wilhelm improved upon the Pascaline by...

Jss3 TOPIC: SPREADSHEET      OBJECTIVE                  1.        Define spreadsheet 2.        List examples of spreadsheet packages. 3.        Mention five uses of spreadsheet packages. 4.      State spreadsheet features and terminologies   Introduction It is easier to work on data when they are in tabular form. It makes the easy to understand, locate (retrieved) and updated. Before now, many accounting work were done on the paper, drawing different lines to represent rows and column to from tables. What Is Spreadsheet Application Package? Spreadsheet application packages are computer application packages that can be used to perform manipulation and keep track of data. They also help to perform series of analysis on data, managing numbers, carry out simple calculations, organize data and present data ...

Jss2 TOPIC: CLASIFICATION OF COMPUTERS BY TYPES AND SIZE OBJECTIVE At the end of this topic you should be able to: 1.         1.        List and explain the classification of computer by types          2. List and explain the classification of computer by size Introduction Computer systems can be classified into their types namely:         I.             Analog      II.             Digital and    III.             Hybrid Analog Computers: These computers have continuous valve. Example of analog computers include; fuel pump in filling station; volume control on TV set (since it allows one adjust the volume continuously in one sooth action), thermometer, speedometers ...

Ss2 TOPIC: DATABASE Introduction Data is a collection of distinct pieces of information that has been formatted (organized) in some specific way for use in analysis or decision making. Database: is a collection of information that is organized so that it can easily be accessed, managed, and updated. Database Management System:   A Database Management System (DBMS) also known as Database Package is the software that allows a computer to perform data database functions such as storing, retrieving, adding, deleting and modifying of data.   Examples of DBMS Microsoft access, MySQL, Microsoft SQL server, Oracle, dbase III, dbase IV, Fox base, Rbase and File maker pro   Features of Database Management Systems a)      Query ability: querying is the process of requesting attribute information from various perspectives and combination of factors. Example: “how many 4-door cars in Nigeria are green?” A database query language and report writer allow a use...
