JSS 2 WEEK EIGHT LESSON NOTE (ICT_323)

Jss 2 TOPIC: File Sharing Introduction Computer files are the most basic unit of data that users can store on a disk. Every program, image, video, song, and document are stored as a file.   FILE SHARING:   It is defined as public or private sharing of data in a network which cannot be accessed by everyone. File sharing allows a selected number of people to read, view or edit it. TYPES OF FILE SHARING :  Here are the most common ways of sharing and distributing files online i.                File Transfer Protocol (FTP):  The FTP is used for accessing or editing files among a number of users with a password making it impossible for an outsider to access the file. It is usually used by bankers. ii.                Peer-to-peer networks (P2P network):  Here you can share files without actually u...

Jss 1 TOPIC: Mouse Techniques Introduction Most interactions with the computer is via the mouse, keyboard and screen. The mouse is used to move a pointer, or  cursor , on the screen. To learn mouse technique, try playing some of the simple games supplied with Windows. BASIC POINTERS Hand position.  Place the back of the mouse so it sits near the heel of your palm, with your thumb resting gently down one side and your fourth and little fingers down the other. Your index finger should be positioned on the left mouse button and your middle finger on the right button. For lefties, the index finger is on the right mouse button and the middle finger on the left, so you use the middle finger to click; the index finger to right-click. Many left-handers prefer to switch the button functions so they use the index finger to click and the middle finger to right-click, just as right-handed users do.   MOUSE TERMINOLOGY & TECHNIQUES     ...

Ss1 TOPIC:  COMPUTER NETWORK Introduction A network consists of two or more computers that are linked in order to share resources (such as printers and CDs), exchange files, or allow electronic communication. In the world of computers, networking is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. Networking is the process by which two or more computers are linked for a flawless communication Properties of computer network 1.        Facilitate communications: computer networks allow people to communicate efficiently and easily via email, instant messaging, chat rooms, telephone, video telephone calls and video teleconferencing. 2.        Permit sharing of files, data and other types of information: In a network environment, authorized users may access data and information stored on other computers on the network. 3.        Share network and...

Jss 2 TOPIC: Safety Measures II Introduction The  computer  lab is a place where students learn practical uses of a  computer , such as programming, how to use a spreadsheet program etc. There are safety rules that need to be applied in a  computer  lab that protect students and the computers themselves. Protecting a  computer  consists of the following: ·          Unwanted programs from installation. ·          Unauthorized users from spying on private  data  and accidental visits to dangerous networks that contain viruses and spyware. In a nutshell, safety measures of  computer  are about keeping computers from things that can render it useless. SAFETY MEASURES FOR  COMPUTER  USERS Due to ever increasing usage of computers, it is important for  computer  users to protect themselves against any hazard. The ...

Jss 1 TOPIC: SCREEN POINTING DEVICES Introduction A pointing device can be defined as any hardware component that allows the user to input spatial data into the computer using physical gesture such as point click and drag. Types of Pointing Devices   There are several pointing devices which are: 1.      Mouse: Mouse is an input device that is used for controlling the cursor on the computer monitor in order to point and select object or give command on the computer screen. It is usually placed on a mouse pad. Two Types of Mouse The most popular types of mouse are as follows: (i)                 Mechanical Mouse: It has a small ball at the bottom. The ball rotates as the mouse is rolled over a flat surface. Usually, a rectangular rubber pad (known as mouse pad) is used as flat surface. As the mouse is rolled over the flat surface, the pointer moves in the same dire...

Ss2 TOPIC: ALGORITHMS AND FLOWCHART Introduction An algorithm is a set of instructions, sometimes called a procedure or a function that is used to perform a certain task. A flow chart is a type of diagram that represents an algorithm or process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting these with arrows. This diagrammatic representation can give a step-by-step solution to a given problem. Characteristics of an algorithm i.   Fitness: an algorithm terminates after a finite number of steps. ii. Definiteness: each step in an algorithm is unambiguous. This means that the action specified by the step cannot be interpreted in multiple ways & can be performed without any confusion. iii. Input: an algorithm accepts zero or more inputs. iv.   Output: it produces at least one output. v. Effectiveness: it consists of basic instructions that are realizable. This means that the instruction can be performed by using the given ...
